Promoting Innovation

It seems these days the US Government is doing a lot to trump their abilities to promote innovation, but basically in my opinion they are full of donkey dung. The government promote innovation; are you out of your minds? When has the government been able to do one damn thing for free enterprise? It seems every law that these worthless, corrupt and scandalous podium pushers dream up hurts free markets and innovation.

But it gets worse you see as some lowly wasteful government agency is assigned to promote innovation as per some new law, which tips the playing field one way or the other, generally due to industry lobbyists bribing politicians. These agencies then run off at the mouth and put into reports that their mission is to promote innovation? Fat Chance. If they close the agency, well then that might indeed promote innovation a little.

Recently in a report given to the US Congress for the justification for increased budget at the Federal Trade Commission; it was stated that;

The FTC continued efforts to harmonize the application of competition law with the patent system in order to benefit consumers by fostering the invention and development of new goods, services, and processes. These efforts included continued administrative litigation in a significant matter involving alleged abuses of the standards-setting process to exploit patent rights. In FY 2005, the Commission considered an appeal from an AW dismissal of the complaint in an adjudicative proceeding. The complaint charged that a defendant violated the antitrust laws by knowingly failing to disclose its relevant intellectual property holdings to a standards-setting organization in which it was a participant. In dismissing the complaint, the AW concluded that the defendant' s conduct did not amount to deception or a violation of its duties and that complaint counsel did not prove that its conduct violated the antitrust laws. A Commission decision is forthcoming. Overview Fiscal Year 2007

Excuse me but in my professional career as an Entrepreneur and in my reality-based observations, I believe this is about the most to turtle turd pile I have ever heard of in my life. First setting industry standards is important, but having the government become involved in such only gives a leg up to those companies who pony up cash to politicians to sit in on the organizing committees and un-level the playing field for those companies with the juice. Thus the FTC in this case does the exact opposite of promoting innovation; they crush it. I think we ought to cut the FTC budget by 50% as I cannot find one thing that they do which impresses me and let me tell you I have been looking, so consider this in 2006.
